Two members of the Thomas Dale cross country team qualified for the state meet last Friday at The Plains, outside of Warrenton, Va.
Those two runners were senior Austin Correia for the boys, and sophomore Allison Jeter for the girls. Correia qualified for the state meet with a time of 16:35, while Jeter ran a 20:53. All cross-country participants run a 3.1 mile (5km) course.
Correia is also a soccer player for Dale and finished 7th in the 6A South regional. Both the boys and girls finished top four in conference, qualifying for regionals. Neither team qualified for state, but both Correia and Jeter’s runs were good enough to get them in the state meet as individuals.
“Both are extremely competitive runners,” stated Thomas Dale Track and Field Head Coach Dick Anthony.
In states, Correia ran a 16:58 and Jeter a 21:13 to round out their seasons on a positive note.
“Both of these kids ran hard and we were pleased with their effort,” said Anthony. “They both performed well at a very high level.”
Jeter, a rising junior, is still young and should be a top runner for Anthony in 2014.
