Pat Mcgowan, official Shoebox mother for the tri-cities, helped volunteers fill 300 shoeboxes over the summer during the 2013 Shoebox Packing Wednesdays mission. Mcgowan is asking folks interested in participating in the Operation Christmas Child program this season to stock up on shoeboxes (average size) and fill them with soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, combs, brushes, hair items for girls and school supplies to donate them during National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, November 18 – 25. The boxes need to be identified with the child’s age category and whether it is for a boy or girl. Collection sites are the First Baptist Church of Hopewell located on Rt. 10; Covenant Christian Fellowship in Colonial Heights, located at Exit 53, 542 Southpark Blvd., and Monumental Baptist Church at 2925 S. Crater Rd. Hours for the collection sites vary but average between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the national collection week.
