Meadowbrook alum Moses named to the Lombardi Award Preseason Watch List

University of Virginia senior offensive tackle Morgan Moses has been named to the 2013 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List. The Rotary Lombardi Award is given to the nation’s top college lineman or linebacker each year. The Meadowbrook High School graduate makes the watch list for the second season in a row.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to: 1) offensive or defensive end-to-end down linemen who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball and 2) linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. All candidates must be eligible to play college sports under the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The candidates earned a place on the Official Watch List by: earning All-America honors last season; being named last season to their respective all-conference first team as determined by the conference’s head coaches; being projected to be an All-American or first team all-conference player for the coming season; or by nomination approved by the nominations committee.

Moses, who has also been named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, enters 2013 as a preseason All-American (fourth team) courtesy of the Phil Steele Preseason list. The senior offensive tackle has started 31 games for the Cavaliers on the offensive line and is one of 70 active FBS football players entering 2013 with at least 30 career starts.

Moses is one of eight players from the ACC that is represented on the preseason watch list of 108 players and is one of three offensive tackles from the ACC. James Hurst (North Carolina) and Brandon Thomas (Clemson) are offensive tackles that join Moses on the list.

While the Watch List highlights those players who have already received national recognition, any Division 1 player who meets the requirements is eligible for consideration from the Rotary Lombardi Selection Committee. This committee is comprised of more than 500 members, including all past winners and finalists, all Division 1 head coaches and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

The Rotary Lombardi Watch List, intended as a reference tool for the Selection Committee, will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the 12 Semifinalists for 2013.

The 44th Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on December 11, 2013 at the Wortham Center in Houston, Texas.
