Andrea Hobbs looks to build on success at CNU

Chester resident Andrea Hobbs is coming off a successful junior year at Christopher Newport University (CNU). As a rising senior, she looks to continue stellar performance and lead her team back to the NCAA tournament in 2014.

Starting at point guard for the Captains, Hobbs has excelled in the classroom boasting a 3.79 GPA in chemistry. Helping guide the Captains to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2013, Hobbs led CNU with 85 assists and averaged over 21 minutes per game.

As lead distributor, she recorded at least five assists during seven games and recorded seven assisted during CNU’s Sweet Sixteen matchup with Montclair State. On the defensive end, Hobbs tallied 32 steals on the year.

Hobbs has been progressing each year at CNU. Freshman year she played 14 games, averaging 2.4 points per game and grabbed 22 rebounds. During her sophomore year, the Thomas Dale alumnus saw action in all 28 games and averaged 4.4 points per game. She led CNU with 88 assists and 38 steals.

Hobbs graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 2010 where she played basketball all four years under Head Coach Kevin Coffey. She averaged 12 points, five assists and four rebounds per game, earning her Second Team All-District honors her junior and senior years. She is the daughter of Tony and Sherri Hobbs of Chester.
