Officer-involved shooting

Chesterfield Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 19800 block of Halloway Avenue on Saturday, June 15.

An officer on patrol in Matoaca Park came upon an occupied vehicle just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. During this encounter an occupant in the vehicle exited and fired multiple shots at the uniformed officer. The officer was able to take evasive action and returned fire. The officer was not injured. The suspect then fled on foot into a wooded area where police conducted an extensive search. The suspect has not been captured and police are unsure if he was injured during this incident.

The suspect has been identified as Devin Christian Grant, 18, of the 19500 block of Temple Avenue. Police have obtained warrants charging Grant with Attempt Capital Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. Grant is described as a black male, 6-foot 2-inches, 210 lbs., with short dreadlocks. Grant is considered armed and dangerous.
