Historic Clarke House demo differed not denied

A proposed demolition permit of the historic Clarke House on Centralia Road in Centralia was deferred (not denied as another Chesterfield newspaper reported) by the Board of Supervisors during their April 10 public meeting. The razing was listed on the consent agenda meaning it could have been approved without debate, but Chairman Dorothy Jaeckle had the item removed and then motioned to differ the case for 30 days. The owners, CW Wright, would like to bulldoze the historic house to make way for a subdivision. Described as part of Centralia in the book “Chesterfield County: Early Architecture and Historic Sites,” the area was … “a reminder of the first suburban growth in Chesterfield.”  The demolition case will be on the Board’s agenda on May 22.
