The Next Level: Drake, Greene, Brown

Sophomore at Messiah College
After roaming the outfield for the Warriors, while playing an important role on four straight Matoaca teams to qualify for the region, Drake now plays right field at Messiah College. Drake is hitting .279 on the season with 13 runs batted in. Drake was featured in 2011 by the Village News for his skill on the diamond and his work ethic in the classroom. According to the Messiah College baseball website, Drake is a physical therapy major and aspires to be like Tim Tebow of the New York Jets. Drake traveled to Costa Rica as a missionary in high school and would like to continue such missions in the future.

Kristen Greene, Track
Thomas Dale High School
Junior at James Madison
Greene, a former Thomas Dale standout has had a solid career thus far throwing for James Madison University. In the shot put, the junior set a personal best as well as the 4th best throw in JMU history with a throw of 13.33 meters at the Liberty Quad on February 8. Greene set several other personal bests as a sophomore last season including a discus throw of 39.26 meters and a javelin throw of 37.39 meters. Also a standout in the classroom, Greene earned the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award for Outdoor Track and Field and was a JMU Athletic Director scholar athlete.

Will Brown, Baseball
Matoaca High School
Sophomore at Georgetown
Will Brown, who was a monster on the mound and in the classroom for Matoaca, accepted a full ride to play baseball at Georgetown University two seasons ago. Like Drake, Brown was a part of a four-year cycle of Warrior squads that qualified for the region tournament. After starting a few games for the Hoyas as a freshman, Brown has settled into a relief role as a sophomore. On the season Brown has a 3-1 record and a 2.70 earned run average over 16.2 innings pitched. The 6-foot 5 pitcher righty leads the Hoyas as of press time in relief appearances.
