Sophomore at UVA Wise
After redshirting as a freshman, Jennings was called the ‘most improved’ player on UVA Wise’s baseball roster. As a sophomore, Jennings has bulked and powered up, hitting .315 with four home runs (2nd on the team), eight doubles (2nd on the team) and 21 runs batted in (3rd on the team). Starting 26 of the 34 games he’s appeared in, the sophomore has helped lead UVA Wise to a 12-10 Mid-South conference record.

Jamarian Bates, Track
Matoaca High School
Freshman at Norfolk State University
After an excellent track career at Matoaca, Bates turned in a solid indoor season for the Norfolk State Spartans as a freshman. For the weeks of February 1 and February 7, Bates was named the Men’s MEAC Field Athlete of the week. At the Gene Anderson Invitational he was the top collegiate finisher and placed second overall in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet In the same meet, Bates finished second in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 47 feet, 0.25 inches. Overall, the freshman collected three athlete of the week accolades. At Matoaca as a senior, Bates won the state indoor long jump title with a jump of 23 feet, 11.25 inches.

Ryan Moore, Baseball

Junior at Chowan
As a two-way player for the Hawks, Moore has played well both as an outfielder and pitcher for Chowan. The junior has pitched to a 3-4 record with a 3.47 earned run average, striking out 53 over 59.2 innings and offensively Moore is hitting .313 with three home runs and 17 runs batted in. Moore’s best performance of the season at the plate came against Elizabeth City State on March 3 where he was 3-4 with a home run and three RBI. Chowan won 11-2. On the mound, his best performance came against Indiana University (PA) where he pitched a complete game in a losing effort, giving up just earned two runs while striking out 13 batters.
