Fires lead to crime investigations

Arson and racial slur
Flames were quickly spreading on the front porch of a residence in the 7800 block of Little Ridge Ct. on March 15 at 4:36 a.m. A vehicle parked at the residence was also on fire. Fire and medical personnel from Manchester and Airport fire stations along with a fire marshal and county police responded. The cause of the fire has been ruled as arson, said Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire and EMS.  The case has sparked an ongoing investigation after graffiti was discovered at the fire site. “A racial slur was painted on the house,” said Elizabeth Caroon, spokesperson for Chesterfield County Police. “Detectives are investigating the incident.”  The investigation will determine if the incident will be reported to State Police as a hate crime. No one was injured.

Murder, Fire, Suicide
Fire and medical personnel were dispatched to the 2000 block of Castle Glen Court for fire in a residence on March 14 at about 11:30 p.m. According to police officials upon entering the house firefighters discovered Walter M. Hester Jr., 50 and his wife Clara L. Morgan-Hester, 46, who had been shot. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Fire and medical personnel who were dispatched to the fire were Manchester, Courthouse, Wagstaff, Manchester at Courthouse and Buford fire stations. An investigation is ongoing and police would like anyone with information to contact Chesterfield Police at 804-748-1251.

Vehicle into building
On March 18 at 9 a.m., fire personnel were dispatched to the 6300 block of Pewter Ave for a report of a vehicle striking a building. The incident had actually occurred on March 17 and apartment personnel requested fire personnel to file a report.

In other incidents
March 18 at 12:01 p.m., a motor vehicle crash was reported at southbound Route 288 at the Iron Bridge Road exit ramp. Fire and medical personnel from Manchester at Courthouse and Airport fire stations were dispatched to the emergency.
March 17 at 11:30 p.m., fire and medical personnel from Bensley Fire Station along with Virginia State Police were dispatched to southbound Interstate 95 at Chippenham Parkway for a motor vehicle crash. One person was reported as having minor injuries.
