Stranded boater rescued from choppy river

Conditions on the James River were rough and a Jon boat with one occupant was being tossed to and fro on Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. The occupant became stranded when his boat motor failed leaving him and his vessel under a bridge. Enon Volunteer Fire Department’s fire boat was dispatched for the rescue. The specially trained river rescue crew were soon on the scene. Captain Vecchionni of Enon Volunteer Fire Department said a line was hooked up and the disabled boat towed in. No injuries were reported.
 
Brush fire
A fire engine from Manchester at Courthouse Fire Station and a brush truck from Wagstaff Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 3400 block of Courthouse Road on Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. for a brush fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. The cause is under investigation.
 
Illegal burn
A fire engine from Bensley Fire Station was dispatched on Feb. 25 at 1: 39 p.m. to Sherborne Road near Jefferson Davis Hwy for an illegal burn. The situation was soon under control.
 
Vehicle fire
A fire engine from River’s Bend Fire Station and county police were dispatched on Feb. 23 at 3:19 p.m. to the 12600 block of Old Stage Road for a vehicle fire. The situation was soon under control.
 
Smell of gas
On Feb. 19 at 11:10 a.m., a fire engine from Dutch Gap Fire Station was dispatched to 12800 Jefferson Davis Hwy. for a smell of gas in the air. The situation was soon under control.
