Firefighter and resident injured in house fire

Fire crews were dispatched on Feb. 7, at 8:40 p.m., to the 4200 block of Ketcham Drive, where they found heavy smoke coming from the front door of a residence. Upon entering, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen and living room. It took crews about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The home sustained significant damage. The lone resident had started to cook something but then fell asleep, according to county fire marshals. He was awakened by the sound of the smoke alarm and exited through the front door. One firefighter suffered minor burns and was treated and released.

Injured firefighters released from hospital
Two firefighters injured while battling a house fire at 9761 Salem Church Road on Feb. 4, and that were transported to a hospital, have been released, said Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire and EMS. One firefighter had a neck injury and one firefighter had a burn to the face, said Elmore. The firefighter who received the burn was transported to MCV. Both firefighters were members of engine crews but from different stations. “Chesterfield Fire and EMS is glad that both firefighters were released from the hospital after only suffering minor injuries,” said Elmore.

In other incidents
Feb. 7 at 2:35 p.m., a motor vehicle crash was reported at 6408 Husting Road between Nott Lane and Husting Ct.

Feb. 7 at 2:05 p.m., fire and medical crews were dispatched to the 4700 block of Adelaide Ave for smoke in a residence. The occupants evacuated while firefighters were on the way. Fire crews searched the residence for the source of the smoke. Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire and EMS said that the cause was the HVAC unit. Fire and medical personnel from Dale, Bensley and Manchester fire stations along with a quint unit from City of Richmond were dispatched. Also on scene were two battalion chiefs and a tactical safety officer.

Feb. 7 at 1:56 p.m., a fire engine from Dutch Gap Fire Station was dispatched to 12800 Jefferson Davis Hwy at the Kmart for an alarm activation

Feb. 6 at 2:39 p.m., a motor vehicle crash was reported at 12530 Jefferson Davis Hwy

Feb. 6 at 1:40 p.m., a motor vehicle crash was reported at Shiloh Drive and Centralia Road

Feb. 6 at 10:47 a.m., a disabled vehicle was reported at 12600 Old Stage Road between Battery Dantzle and Chestnut Hill Lane
