Hybrid tax is a step backwards

To the Editor:
You mentioned the proposed tax on hybrid cars in last week’s column (“How ya gonna pay for it”). I expect to be paying that tax of $100 annually, since I drive a hybrid.  That amount is around $70 higher than the amount of money that I am failing to pay in gasoline taxes, by virtue of driving an efficient car – the stated reason for the hybrid tax. So much for Republican fairness in Virginia.  The hybrid car tax is simply a matter of slapping the greenies – after all, few of them vote Republican.

Regretably, the proposed hybrid tax, if enacted, will result in slowing progress towards increased car efficiency. More air pollution will result.  More climate change denial, thanks to “Backwards” Bob McDonnell and company.
