Week 10: Football recap

Bird finished their season 10-0 and 8-0 in the Dominion District with a 35-0 shut out victory over the Clover Hill Cavaliers last Friday night. The win also secured the Skyhawks’ 12th straight Dominion District title and earned them the 4th seed in the Central Region playoffs.

Paul Robertson had another monster game for Bird as he rushed for 233 yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns. Quarterback Terrance Ervin connected with Rasheed Worsham for a 30-yard touchdown pass.

The Skyhawk defense allowed just 58 total yards to the Cavaliers. Bird will travel to Hermitage this Friday for the first round of the Central Region playoffs. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. It has been the Panthers the last two seasons that have knocked the Skyhawks out of the playoffs. Bird will look to avenge last season’s regional final loss.

Colonial Heights 6

The Knights finished their season on a high note with a blowout victory of Colonial Heights on the road last Friday.

Running backs D.J. Reid and Eric Finney led the way for the Knights on offense. Reid rushed for 139 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown while Finney ran for 115 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns. Wide receiver John Ford had three receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The Knights were led on defense by Marco Carrabotta with ten tackles. C.J. Reavis had eight tackles and an interception on the evening.

Thomas Dale will finish their season at 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the Central District. Their victories this season came against Matoaca, Prince George, Petersburg and Colonial Heights.
