Local grocery store robbed at gunpoint, police investigate

Employees of a local grocery store were robbed at gunpoint, and the Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program wants to help identify the suspect.

At about 6 p.m. on Friday, June 29, a man entered the Taj Mahal grocery store at 7104 Hull Street Rd. in the 360 West Shopping Center.  He appeared to be shopping for groceries.  When he approached the register to pay, however, he pulled out a silver-colored handgun and demanded money.  A customer was walking into the store at the same time, and the robber tried to recruit the customer as a lookout, promising the customer money for his help.  As the suspect put his gun down to zip-tie the victims, the customer was able to escape and called police.  The robber collected money from the victims and left on foot.

The suspect was a black male in his early 20s, approximately 6 feet, 4 inches tall, with an athletic build and a bald or shaved head.  He wore a gray sweatshirt and a red baseball cap.
