UNATTENDED COOKING CAUSE OF EARLY-MORNING FIRE

Chesterfield County fire marshals have determined that an early-morning fire today at a residence at 4801 Jessup Road was accidental and the result of unattended cooking. One resident was treated on-scene for smoke inhalation, but was not transported to a hospital.
The Chesterfield County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded at 2:22 a.m. for a report of a kitchen fire.

Shooting death investigation continues

Chesterfield police continue to investigate a shooting that left one man dead in the 5300 block of Pembroke Street on Saturday, May 11. Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the 5300 block of Pembroke Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located Matthew Warren McDaniel, 19, of the 2800 block of Brampton Way. McDaniel had sustained a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Newcomer Bigs BBQ named best barbeque at Grillin’ on the Green

The Chester Rotary welcomed the largest crowd yet to their annual Grillin’ on the Green event last Thursday. Patrons enjoyed several samplings of area barbequer’s best recipes, but only one could be named Chester’s best barbeque. The 2013 people’s choice barbeque title was won by Bigs BBQ.

Clarke House could be saved

The Clarke house on Centralia Road could be saved after all. According to real estate attorney, Carrie Coyner, who is now representing the owner, the house could be renovated by a potential buyer.

Western Chesterfield high schools rank high in state

Two schools in Chesterfield ranked in the top 1,000 schools in the country according to a recent U.S. News magazine report. Cosby High School off Hull Street Road west of Woodlake ranked number 23 in Virginia and 565 in the country.

VCU Med-flight team visits CBC Preschool

The Chester Baptist Church Preschool welcomed the flight crew from the VCU Med-Flight team on Wednesday May 2 as a part of their “Community Helpers Week.” The children were able to watch the helicopter fly in and descend into the front parking lot and received a lesson on how the Med-Flight works to help others.

Chester Lions raise $2,800 for sight conservation
