4-H Campers invites you for a game of golf

The Jamestown 4-H Educational Center is sponsoring a “Send A Kit to Camp” and “Keep the Campfires Burning” golf tournament. The tournament will take place at the Williamsburg National Golf Club – Jamestown course located at 3700 Centerville Road in Williamsburg on Friday, June 18, with a Captains Choice Tee off at 1 p.m.

NBA player to host youth basketball camp

Prince George High School graduate and current NBA Golden State Warrior Reggie Williams will host a youth basketball camp in conjunction with Follow Through Sports, according to information from FTS staff member Ray Bolton.

Cat woman sentenced to six months in jail

Patti Wheeler, 52, was sentenced last week on felony counts of vandalism and animal cruelty. The veterinarian aide was sentenced to six months in jail for housing 56 cats in a house on Treely Rd.

Police seek men who robbed grocery store on Turner Road

Crime Solvers needs the community’s help to identify and catch three men who robbed the Casa Blanca grocery store at 2607 Turner Road on Saturday, Jan. 23.

From Ukraine to Austria to America: Displaced by WWII, a local woman’s family crossed the Atlantic

As a child during World War II, Mary Palczynski was released from her Austrian school during an air raid. Allowing the children to disburse was standard practice so not all of them would be killed if a bomb hit the school, said Palczynski, a member of an Ukranian family displaced by the far-reaching conflict.

Gates Elementary takes third in online contest

O.B. Gates Elementary School came in third and earned $3,000 in a recent online contest to name America’s favorite school. Superintendent Marcus Newsome announced the results of the contest, sponsored by, at a press conference at Gates Elementary last week.
