The Kids Zone: A place to inspire creativity, fun and friendly competition, a place where children can participate in sack races, wheel barrow races and jump on inflatables and, ultimately, a place where parents can take their children and know that the end result will involve happy, sweaty, tired kids – a parent’s dream. On Sept. 25, ChesterFest will take over once again and the Kids Zone will be going full force.
On a rain-soaked day last week, volunteers checked in and sorted hundreds of backpacks filled with back-to-school essentials that will soon pass to the hands of young students in need.
Earlier this summer, the Chesterfield United 97G Elite team won the state cup by marching through a grueling 32-team tournament, a victory that also qualified the team for the Region I Championship Tournament held at Marshall University in Huntingdon, W.Va. The tournament brought together state cup winners from 13 states from Maine to Virginia.

June 23 wasn’t the first time Chester native Michael Dudley put himself in danger to help someone. Dudley, an 18-year-old Thomas Dale High School graduate, once saw a woman’s purse get stolen. With little thought, he chased down and tackled the purse snatcher.
The Seaboard Coast Line Railroad line bisects Chesterfield’s Bermuda District from north to south, cutting through a number of communities along the way. Neighborhoods in Chester and Centralia come within spitting distance of the tracks, which can see as many as 40 CSX freight trains and several Amtrak passenger trains each day.
