Matoaca fashion department gets hands-on experience

October was a busy month for Matoaca High Fashion Merchandising students and their teacher Heather Viar.

Thomas Dale beats Meadowbrook for playoff berth

Whenever the Thomas Dale Knights and the Meadowbrook Monarchs have gotten together in the past few years, the game has had a lot of meaning. Last season, Meadowbrook had to beat Thomas Dale to stay alive for a wildcard in the playoffs, and did so 20-16. In 2009, the teams met and were both undefeated in the district.

VSU storms VUU in homecoming game

Only the fans in the Virginia State University (VSU) bleachers seemed to feel the nasty weather at last Saturday’s game in Ettrick. Their players, however, emerged from the locker room hot-blooded and ready to do some real damage on Virginia Union University.

Chester Library to display art of Jorge Diaz in November

Jorge Diaz’s artwork will be on exhibit at the Chester Library from Nov. 5-26. The opening reception, sponsored by the Chesterfield Center for the Arts Foundation, will be on Saturday, Nov. 5, 3 - 4:30 p.m., in the Maud Hurt Meeting Room in the Chester Library.

Police blotter

BENTWOOD CT 10/21 Unknown suspect/s pushed in a window air conditioning unit to gain entry to the victim’s residence. Once inside, the kitchen drawers were rummaged through and property was stolen.
