400 years: Publick Days commemorates Henricus’ 400 years

What began as a dream nearly 30 years ago for a handful of folks who envisioned a re-creation of a settlement in Chesterfield County that held the beginnings of a nation, the Henricus Historical Park and nearly 4,000 visitors commemorated its 400th anniversary last weekend during the park’s signature annual event, Publick Days.

Bermuda citizens voice input on Comprehensive Plan

At two community meetings last Tuesday, Bermuda District residents commented on the revised draft of the Comprehensive Plan– a guide mandated by the state of Virginia for every locality to illustrate its direction for growth and change –when members of the county’s Planning Commission and staff heard their input first at the Bensley Community Building with 12 citizens in attendance and then at Thomas Dale High School with only 13 citizens attending.

Chester’s English ‘twins’ stop by for a visit

When a delegation of local officials and citizen volunteers from Gravesham, England, dropped by the Chesterfield Center for the Arts Foundation and Chester Community Association offices last Friday, it was merely the latest installment of the legacy dating from the 1614 marriage of early colonist John Rolfe to a local girl named Pocahontas.

2011 Chester Kiwanis Christmas Parade registration

The holiday season is just around the corner and plans are underway for the 2011 Chester Kiwanis Christmas Parade. The parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m., beginning at the Chester YMCA on Route 10 and ending at the Chester Village Green. Closure of roads affected by parade traffic will begin at 1:45 p.m.

How to apply for 2011 holiday assistance with Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother will hold registration for holiday assistance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 19, through Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Exhibition Building located at Courthouse and Krause Roads.

Shepherd’s Center to host silent auction at ChesterFest

The Shepherd’s Center of Chesterfield, a non-profit organization providing transportation, handyman services and classes for adults over 50, will host a silent auction at ChesterFest from 10a.m.-5p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Village Green complex in Chester.
