Chesterfield said goodnight to Irene at about 3 a.m Sunday morning. While many thought she would just skirt the coast, the storm was so large even Chesterfield felt her wrath. After a soaking rain, the roots of hundreds of trees could no longer stand against the 40 mph sustained winds and gusts that reached as much as 70 mph.

School Board approves new benefits package for CCPS employees

The Chesterfield County School Board has approved the continuation of the current benefit plan and its accompanying rates for the school system’s employees through extending a contract with Anthem Health Plan. Under the new contract, which is to be activated in Jan. 1, 2012, employees will be able to continue their current health benefits without putting a strain on their wallets.

Jaeckle wins primary, defeats McCarney

Voter turnout was weak for Tuesday’s Republican Primary for Bermuda District’s Board of Supervisors. Incumbent Dorothy A. Jaeckle, serving in the position since 2007, won 2 – 1 against challenger Chris McCarney.

Farmers and farm lovers visited Virginia State University’s (VSU) Randolph Farm in Ettrick last Tuesday for the 26th Annual Agriculture Field Day, an event held by the university to benefit local, small-scale farmers.

CHESTERFEST: Old Time, Celtic music traditions to merge at Sept. 24’s ChesterFest

Two area musical groups will bring a glimpse of Appalachia and the British Isles to Chester on Saturday, Sept. 24: The Old Towne Celtic Players, a session group out of Petersburg, and the Cary Street Ramblers, a band bringing Richmond sounds from the mountains, will be adding quite a bit of twang to this year’s ChesterFest.

Credit cards stolen from Midlothian theaters

The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to identify and find the people responsible for stealing credit cards from victims at local movie theaters in Midlothian. The credit cards were used later to make purchases at Old Navy, Target, Best Buy and various restaurants in Chesterfield.

Camberwell Rd 8/22 South Pointe Landing Apts. Property removed from numerous vehicles in the apartment complex. Officers located the suspects vehicle, taking the suspects into custody.
