9/11 – A day of service, remembrance for the community

Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, was a beautiful, sunny day, just like that fateful Tuesday 10 years earlier. This year, fortunately, the day did not end in shock, sorrow, loss, and devastation. Churches and civic groups around the country, including Chester United Methodist Church (CUMC), encouraged their members to join them for a day of service and remembrance.

Local artist to have art displayed during October

Chester resident Katherine Thompson will have her custom portraits in oil, pastel, and pencil on exhibit during the month of October. An opening reception for her exhibit, “Faces of Promise: Portraits of the Young and Young at Heart,” is Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Village News names Athletes of the Week

Congratulations are in order for Harrison Fink, who has been selected as the Village News male athlete of the week. Lately, the senior has been the leader of the cross country team, finishing in 2nd place in his last two events, the Goochland Invitational, helping to lead Thomas Dale into their district meets.

Coming into Friday’s game 2-0, L.C. Bird was still considered one of the top teams in the region, dispatching Thomas Dale rather handily and defeating George Wythe 42-0. L.C. Bird would face a familiar opponent in the Manchester Lancers.

World-traveled musician visits Thomas Dale

Thomas Dale High School welcomed world-renowned musician and Grammy Award winner Sandip Burman last Tuesday morning, who engaged music students in the school’s Specialty Center for the Visual and Performing Arts with the unique sounds of traditional classical music native to India.
