Dutch Gap started this week in 1864

Many residents of Chesterfield have visited the Dutch Gap Conservation Area and the Citie of Henricus Historical Park at one time or another. If you walk out past Henricus to the Point or visit the boat ramp at Dutch Gap, you are looking at the results of a historical event that began this week, 147 years ago.

The Second Thursdays event presented on the Village Green in Chester will feature cabaret acts from Evelyn Quaye and Una Harrison.
Ms. Quaye sings standards as the Second Thursdays concert features a Night at the Cabaret.

John Brown: His family and his legacy

There’s a section of grass surrounded by an asphalt parking lot behind Oak Grove Baptist Church on Beulah Road. Deep beneath the sod lay John H. Brown and a number of his descendants.

Movie to be filmed at Henricus Historical Park

During last week’s Chesterfield Board of Supervisors meeting, County Administrator James J.L. Stegmaier announced that a feature film would be shot in part at Henricus Historical Park in Chester as well as Jamestown and a couple of other Virginia locations.

The Chesterfield County Police Department’s Teen Citizens Academy held its sixth graduation ceremony on Friday, July 29.

Mazda expands its Walthall plant

Mazda have been refurbishing engines at its Walthall Plant for nearly three years. Now the Japanese company has added rebuilding automatic transmissions to its production line. The $2.3 million plant opened at the Walthall Industrial Park in 2008 with rebuilding engines only. Last week’s celebration at the plant was all about expansion.

North Tampa wins Bronco-11 World Series in Chesterfield

After four days of heat-drenched baseball at Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge, North Tampa (Fla.) defeated Torrance (Calif.) 13-8 Saturday afternoon to become PONY baseball’s Bronco-11 World Series champions.
