Out of the 400 plus students currently enrolled at Chesterfield Community High School, 16 in particular have literally teamed up to accomplish something unprecedented in the school’s thirteen-year history.

The first week in May, 147 years ago, brought Union troops on the ground to Chesterfield. The Civil War had arrived. On May 4, 1864, General Ulysses S. Grant put his grand campaign into motion. While sending a diversion brigade to West Point, Major General Benjamin F. Butler and 40,000 troops steamed their way up the James River.
One day in early April, Carie Keller’s cell phone rang from the Bronx; it was her aunt, telling her about the hottest news in the most recent People magazine. Elizabeth Taylor, pictured on the cover, had passed. The legendary magazine had bid its farewell to the Hollywood goddess.
Thirteen-year-old Devin Rashad Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene in a shooting on Timsberry Terrace over the weekend. Another victim, 17, was also shot but his injuries are non-life threatening. He was hospitalized at Chippenham Medical Center.

Flagship Carwash, that recently purchased and renovated the $5 Car Wash at 12001 Bermuda CRossroads Lane, installing a new $5 wash under the Flagstop banner, has received a permit to erect a 90 foot flagpole at site. Their signature giant American flag is expected to arrive soon.
