Brown retires after 41 years at Ettrick

After 41 years of working at Ettrick Elementary School, Mrs. Wilma Jones-Brown recently retired from the Chesterfield County school system. In 1969, Brown began her career as a teacher’s aide at Dupuy Road Elementary (which was later named the Ettrick Elementary Annex).

Kasey Crute returns home

After spending several months in an Atlanta hospital, Chester native Kasey Crute is finally home. Crute, 19, was a freshman at the University of Virginia when she suffered a paralyzing neck injury in early March while volunteering in Panama.

Harrowgate educator selected as Va. National Distinguished Principal

Linda C. Wood, principal of Chester’s Harrowgate Elementary, was selected in early June as Virginia’s 2011 National Distinguished Principal. She received the award Tuesday, June 14, in a surprise presentation in front of her students, the community, and the school staff.

Area students awarded scholarships

Chester resident Ashley Simard is the recipient of a $1,500 college scholarship awarded by Military Children Program at Fort Lee. Simard, the daughter of Gretchen and Philip Simard, is enrolled for the fall semester at the University of Virginia.

The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs your help to identify a man who used a stolen bank card.

Police blotter

Shiloh Dr. 8/11 Centralia Gardens. Unknown suspect observed backing his vehicle up to the victim’s locked shed. Victim shouted at the suspect, who entered his vehicle and fled the area. Entry was not gained and at this time nothing has been reported stolen.
