Southside Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is changing the way patients and their families think about and experience joint replacement surgery with the introduction of The Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care.

Pool time at 98-years-old

Last Friday was a very special day for Ms. Kitty Knittel. Surrounded by friends and family on the deck of the Chester YMCA’s pool, she celebrated her 98th birthday. Miss Kitty, as her friends in the H20 Kids group call her, swims with the “Just My Speed and Arthritis Class” three days a week.

Beavers and man are culprits on Great Branch Creek

Made of sticks, mud, sod and logs as large as 12-inches in diameter, a beaver dam on Reedy Branch Creek has caused problems for years. It was removed a few years ago to allow the wetlands that lies stagnate along Chester Road north or Chester Station subdivision to drain with a steady flow. It’s back again.

Troop 447 cookie sales benefit Susan G. Komen Foundation

“Compassionate, smart, fun, ambitious and lively” is how Jennifer McCray, leader of Girl Scout Troop 447, describes the six girls within her group. Kylie Arthur, Amanda Coats, Olivia Johnson, Kelsey Norris, Madison McCray and Madisson Smith joined the group in the first grade and have been growing and learning together for the past four years.

27 Dresses Tea and Fashion Show at Cornerstone

The women of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church were recently treated to a Ladies’ Tea which included a fashion show of their own wedding gowns and formalwear. An open invitation was sent via the church email to every woman in the congregation calling for their special gowns for the event.

Jada Moore wins Hunger Games trivia contest at Matoaca High School

The Matoaca High School library sponsored a “Hunger Games” Trivia Contest the week of March 19. With many students looking forward to the movie premiere on Friday, March 23, there was lots of interest within the student body.

Positive Parenting Coalition recognizes Harrowgate teacher

Taffy Jones-Hayes was the recipient of the 2012 Pat Cullen Award. Ms. Jones-Hayes has served as a Chesterfield County Teacher at Harrowgate Elementary School 19 years as the Parent Liaison Coordinator. In this capacity, Ms. Jones-Hayes has provided enormous resources for parents and students of the Harrowgate community.

LC Bird competes in FIRST Robotics Competition Virginia Regional

After a two-day robotic basketball tournament that tested their engineering, teamwork and alliance-building skills, high school teams, the robotics contest brought together 59 teams from Virginia, The Carolinas, Connecticut and Washington, DC to face off at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center.
