School Board discusses tenuous budget rebuilding

School Board work sessions often assume the tone of a rather tedious grad school seminar. The five elected members, guided by the superintendent or one of his staff, worked through stacks of material, occasionally posing questions, but generally focused on mastering the substance of some challenge facing the Chesterfield schools in difficult financial times.

Local Students Named to Dean’s List at Hampden-Sydney College

Local students attending Hampden-Sydney College were named to the Dean’s List for the Fall semester of the 2011-2012 academic year. To earn this distinction, students must achieve at least a 3.3 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Swift Creek Mill presents ‘The 39-Steps’

The clowns carried the show during Swift Creek Mill’s latest production of “The 39-Steps.” Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film of Alfred Hitchcock, the four cast members give a superb performance for a small theater with a small budget.
