While flowers, balloons and stuffed animals were being delivered all around the community, three local volunteers were delivering book-donations to schools in Chester. Hands of Hope LaSertoma (HOH) and youth chapter Helping Hands of Tomorrow (HHOT), received a $27,000 donation of books from James T. Rumsey Technical School in W.Va.
The Chesterfield County School Board last night approved the calendar for the 2013-14 school year. The adopted version of the calendar reflects feedback received from parents, employees and community members since November, when the first calendar proposal came to the School Board.

The University of Mary Washington has announced its Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year. The Dean’s List recognizes outstanding academic achievement by full-time students who attain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
Anne Hermes, of South Chesterfield, was named to the Dean’s List of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2012 fall semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.85 grade point average or higher to be named to the Dean’s List.
With a strong third place finish in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Forensics Speech Tournament Matoaca High School senior Nicholas Rundlett will advance to the regional competition.
Three Matoaca High School choir students were recently selected via audition at the All-District Choir to advance to the All-State Choir. This is the highest honor a singer can achieve at the high school level.
