Winners of county scholarship announced

The winners of the Leaders of the 21st Century Scholarship for 2010-2011 were recently announced.

Students Jump Rope for Heart at Curtis Elem.

During the first week of November, students at Curtis Elementary jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope for Heart, according to information from Tina Seal, a physical education teacher and Jump Rope for Heart coordinator at the school.

Matoaca High collects 327 bags of food

During a school-wide food drive for the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program, 327 bags of food were collected from the students, staff and community of Matoaca High School, according to information from Librarian Alda Moore. The food drive ran from Nov. 15 to Dec. 1.

Communities In Schools of Chesterfield earns accreditation

Communities In Schools of Chesterfield has earned accreditation through the national organization’s Total Quality System. This means that the practices, data, sites and effectiveness of CIS of Chesterfield have been thoroughly examined and found to meet the highest standards, a press release says.

Tech Center students give back

Students in dental assisting classes at the Chesterfield Technical Center volunteered in November at a dental clinic at Victoria Elementary School in Lunenburg County, according to information from Chesterfield County Public Schools.

There was something for everyone at Matoaca Middle School’s Winterfest, where students could play video games, dance, ride a Segway, bounce on inflatable games or enjoy a snack.

Bellwood donates 2,300 items of food

This year, Bellwood Elementary School participated in a food drive to help benefit families of Chesterfield and Colonial Heights through the Christmas Mother Program. The Student Council Association organized and promoted a food drive that proved to be very successful.
