Emily Phillips, a member of the Health Science Specialty Center at Cosby High School was recognized and presented with a $1,000 scholarship during Chesterfield County’s 2011 Black History Month Business Breakfast Celebration.
Students from throughout Chesterfield were named to the “President’s List” at Bryant & Stratton College’s recent academic awards convocation. The President’s List represents full-time students who earned grade-point averages of 4.00 during the semester.
The Chesterfield County Department of Youth Planning and Development is seeking nominations for the 2011 Outstanding Youth Awards. Youths who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to their communities, neighborhoods or schools, and adults who have contributed positively to the development of youths in the county, are eligible.
Progression, the annual spring dance showcase at Thomas Dale High School, promises to be an evening of entertaining and enlightening art. An impressive display of technical prowess and artistry, the event exhibits powerful choreography by faculty, students and guest artists at Chesterfield’s Specialty Center for the Arts.
Chesterfield County offers a limited number of prekindergarten spots in 12 schools to provide school-readiness skills to eligible children with the greatest need. There are no exceptions to age and residency requirements.
Lloyd C. Bird High School student, D’Angelo Chevonne Burns, of Chesterfield, was recognized for superior academic achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars.
Students at Elizabeth Scott Elementary School know that the scorpions crawling on the school mailbox won’t sting; in a similar way, some trust that writing may not be one of the worst things to experience in the world – like getting stung by a poisonous creature.
“It is fantastic,” said Jalen Davis while tasting the blood orange. It was citrus tasting day at Ettrick Elementary. Additonal comments from the fifth-grade students also included sweet, sour and even nasty. Caleb Hinchey also likes the blood orange and will try it again.
