Bensley Elementary School’s fifth-grade chorus officially launched the holiday season for Defense Logistics Agency employees performing four holiday songs during the annual tree lighting ceremony Dec. 7.
In response to the large amount of research supporting the importance of reading at home, Elizabeth Scott Elementary School launched the Million Minute Reading Challenge, an at-home reading incentive program this year. The school’s goal is to read one million minutes at home each semester.
A retirement party is always bittersweet. School Board member Marshall Trammell’s send off was no different. A couple of hundred friends, teachers, school staff members and students stopped by the open house offering best wishes.
Last Monday, Ettrick Elementary students used the timeline and travelled back in time and celebrated the 60th day of school. “How appropriate that this day should fall in the season of Christmas as we promote Peace on Earth and Goodwill to man,” said Jackie Coffey, first grade teacher at Ettrick.
As part of a schoolwide project, Matoaca High School collected over 1200 pounds of food to benefit the Colonial Heights-Chesterfield Christmas Mother Program.
Four additional Chesterfield teachers have achieved National Board certification, which is one of the highest credentials in education, and two National Board Certified Teachers have renewed their certification.

Several local Virginia Tech students have gained membership to the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. Commonly known as The Spirit of Tech, The Marching Virginians celebrate their 38th anniversary season with entertaining performances and lively music to support the Hokies during the 2011-2012 football season.
