Virginia today honored 17 Chesterfield schools with Virginia Index of Performance awards, with three of those schools winning the highest honor, the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence.

Roper Memorial Scholarship offered to high school students

The Southside Virginia Chapter of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will make available Roper Memorial Scholarships for selected high school seniors. These scholarships have been awarded annually since 1997 to applicants from high schools in the Fort Lee and surrounding Southside Virginia areas.

Mataoca HS students, faculty accept Rachel’s Challenge

Guest speaker Torski Dobson-Arnold visited Matoaca High School Thursday, Jan. 5, presenting assemblies for students and staff introducing the Rachel’s Challenge Program established by the family of Rachel Joy Scott, the first student to die in the Columbine High School tragedy.

Registration opens Jan. 9 for workforce training and other Adult Continuing Education opportunities

Jan. 9 is the start of registration for workforce training and other classes offered for residents 18 and older by Adult Continuing Education. Details are included in the winter/spring program guide, which is available online at mychesterfieldschools.com and in county libraries.

Martin makes Dean’s List at Bridgewater

Heidi Martin, a sophomore majoring in biology, from Chesterfield, made the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Bridgewater College. Dr. Carol A. Scheppard, vice president and dean for academic affairs, last week announced the list of those who excelled academically.
