Tip of the hat: A tea party fund raiser

In the run up to the Shepherd Center of Chesterfield’s Senior Idol contest, volunteers from the center held another fund raiser; hosting a ladies tea party. “Hats” was the theme for the party. Many of the ladies came prepared to be judged for their hats. Each were judged in four categories; Most Beautiful, Most Zany, Most Creative and Most Shabby Chic.

Virginia’s Civil War 150 HistoryMobile coming to Chesterfield

The Virginia Civil War 150 HistoryMobile is coming to Chesterfield County’s Central Library, Wednesday, Saturday, May 9 -12. The HistoryMobile is a museum on wheels containing a high-tech, immersive experience to present individual stories from the Civil War and Emancipation from the viewpoints of those who witnessed it—young and old, enslaved and free, soldiers and civilians.

Henricus breaks ground for church

Charles Lewis Grant, executive director, Henricus Historical Park, welcomed donors, guest and board members to the park on Monday for a groundbreaking ceremony for the re-created 1611 colonial Church and Meeting Hall.

JRAC recognizes ‘Stewards of the River’

The James River Advisory Council recognized several people in a ceremony Thursday, April 26, with its annual Stewards of the River awards. Established in 2006, the awards recognize outstanding community members who make measurable, positive impacts through their roles as leaders, community partners, guardians and spokespersons on behalf of the James River.

Chesterites take part in World Tai Chi & Qigong Day

Chester Tai Chi practitioners caught the wave of energy that was passed around the world Saturday during a gathering for World Tai Chi & Qigong Day. At 10 a.m., seventy countries, in their local time, sent the wave of Tai Chi across the globe in an annual event to educate millions worldwide about Tai Chi and Qigong’s benefits and how to find local classes.

Enon volunteer fire chief honored upon retirement

Volunteer fire stations are on the endangered species list in Chesterfield. As professional firefighters have been trained and put to work at state-of-the-art facilities across the county, volunteer stations have taken the back seat to stations manned by Chesterfield’s pros, even though volunteers go through the same training.
