Board votes bonuses in1946
According to a Richmond News Leader article from this week in 1946, teachers in Chesterfield were voted a bonus from a state windfall of $29,984 that when distributed equally among teachers would equal $150.
Living Histories: Exhibit celebrates rich history of African-Americans in Chesterfield County
In 2005, volunteers with the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) agreed that celebrating Black History Month included more than merely recognizing national figures involved in black history and what was written in textbooks; it meant venerating the personal histories of local African-Americans, as well.

Supersized mural will wow kids and adults alike
In Chester, just inside the doors of the unfinished American Family Fitness, lies a vibrant, four-walled mural and a mythical world created for gym visitors. Painted by professional muralist and Richmond resident Julie Lancaster, 53, with the help of her son, Patrick Welch, 25, the mural will be completed Tuesday, Feb. 15, when the gym officially opens for the community to see for themselves.
