Changing Gears: Art center moves to a more public presence

Evoking a spiritual and emotional response to those who participate in a presentation of all art forms, it is well known that visual art, music, dance and performance art is an aesthetic elevator for those who observe and are engaged by it.

Drugstore was once Chester’s epicenter

Take the turn off of Route 10 in Chester onto Harrowgate Road and you will immediately see it straight ahead. An old, two-story, odd-shaped brick building that has been painted over with gray paint. Odd-shaped to fit the plot of land where it was built, it’s sort of our southern version of Fenway Park.

Victories and Setbacks: Miss Chesterfield County Fair fights back after traumatic accident

She was crowned 2011 Miss Chesterfield County Fair in August of last year. Jessica Fee remembers how excited she was to win the pageant. “I thought it was the biggest thrill,” she beamed about her experience with the county fair pageant.

Coach offering workshops for early-childhood educators beginning Jan. 28

COACH, Chesterfield County’s Coalition for Active Children, will be offering three “I Am Moving, I Am Learning” workshops in 2012. These workshops teach early-childhood educators (those working in preschools or in other early-childhood programs) ways that they can incorporate movement and healthier nutrition in their children’s daily routines.

Parks and rec programs aim to keep county active this winter

The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a series of programs to help kids and adults stay active this winter. On Saturday, Feb. 11, from 7:30-10 p.m., kids aged 7-11 years can bounce to their hearts’ content at the Winter Blues Party.

Free dental care day returns to Chester for 6th year

The Chester area dental office of doctors Tony and John Agapis will host a free day of dental care for the sixth straight year as part of an annual Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH) event on Friday, Feb. 17, at 2480 Osborne Road in Chester.
