Major General Ben Butler and thirty-five thousand men of the Army of the James landed at Bermuda Hundred on May 5, 1864. They advanced towards Petersburg, where battles were fought at Port Walthall Junction on May 6 and 7, then on May 9 at Swift Creek.

Don Beverly, president of Don’s Trucking Company of Chester is showing support to the Shriners Hospitals for Children by placing signs on the back of his trailers. These signs give information on how the Shriners can be contacted if there is a child who is in need of help.

Recognition of Veterans on the Village Green

The Kiwanis Club of Chester and the Village News sponsored and hosted the 12th Annual Fort Lee Army Concert on the Chester Village Green. Over 500 people attended to listen to Big Band, popular, country and patriotic music.
