Boy Scout Troop 178 held awards meeting

Boy Scout Troop 178 held an awards meeting at the VFW in Chester on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Tom Ferguson, commander of the post, is to thank for providing Troop 178 with a meeting location. The following is a list of awards and recognitions that were presented:

Ettrick/Matoaca Memorial Day service

The Ettrick-Matoaca Historical Society remembered seven young men from Ettrick and 13 young men from Matoaca on May 29, holding separate memorial ceremonies in the two villages.

Music museum

In 2005, Allen Mills, of the legendary bluegrass band Lost and Found, was inducted into the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame, which commemorates artists and musicians from the Commonwealth for their life-time achievements in Appalachian music: folk, bluegrass, and gospel.

Ettrick’s Chesterfield Avenue facelift begins

Throughout its long history, the village of Ettrick has served as an important gateway into Chesterfield County. According to the Chesterfield County revitalization department, under the leadership of Tom Jacobson, that gateway will now be enhanced. A conceptual plan was introduced at a ceremony last week in Ettrick, previewing what the proposed improvement would bring.

Chester Lions Club donates proceeds from White Cane Days Drive

Through the generosity of Chester and the surrounding community, the Chester Lions Club’s White Cane Days Drive held on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, was a tremendous success, according to members of the club.

Hundley donates hair to Locks of Love

Morgan Hundley, 9, a third-grader at Matoaca Elementary School, recently donated 10 and a half inches of her hair to Locks of Love. She waited until her cheerleading season with Fame All-Stars concluded before she donated her hair.
