Local eatery spices it up a bit and creates ambiance

The two Italians that recently opened Soprano’s Italian Bistro in the courtyard at Chesterfield Meadows Shopping Center are shaking things up a bit. They formed the partnership to bring an affordable eatery to the folks in the courthouse area.

Epic “Odyssey” at Battersea

Sycamore Rouge’s production of “The Odyssey” overcomes almost as many challenges as Odysseus on his voyage back home after the Trojan War. Homer’s epic poem was written almost 3,000 years ago, but its themes still resonate; these are: fidelity, the inevitability of retribution for wickedness, the importance of honor, the yearning for home and the occasional need for trickery to survive.

Central High School held 55th class reunion in Chester

The 1956 graduating class of Central High School, formerly in Low Moor, Va., held their 55th class reunion in Chester on June 10-11, 2011, at the Chester Village apartments.

Woman suffrage and the poll tax

On July 10, 1902, a second Constitution was adopted by the Commonwealth. A Constitutional Convention had been convened over a year earlier, and taking a year to deliberate, established laws such as a poll tax and woman suffrage.
